Tunisia Becomes AFC’s 34th Member State

Tunisia has joined the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) as its 34th member. With Tunisia’s membership, the AFC now has three North African member states, with Morocco and Egypt joining in 2021, deepening the infrastructure provider’s relationship with a critical African gateway.

Tunisia’s geographical location makes it a vital transit point for natural gas shipments from Africa to Europe.

For a long time, AFC has been investing in Tunisia to help the country develop its core economic sectors and create high-skilled jobs. The Halk El Menzel offshore oil concession block in Northern Tunisia received a US$37 million investment from AFC in 2017.

The project has been particularly important in terms of supplying the energy required for transportation, installation, start-up, and commissioning, first well drilling, including the acquisition of critical production installations, floating storage and offloading units, repair, upgrade, and completion of a wellhead platform.
