EU Agency Calls for Proposals for Key Energy Projects

The European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has announced a call for proposals for essential European Union energy infrastructure projects, providing €850 million ($903 million) in support.

According to CINEA’s media release, the call for proposals targets key cross-border EU energy infrastructure projects listed in the EU’s Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs) under the revised TEN-E (Trans-European Network – Energy) Regulation (EU) 2022/869.

Funded by the EU budget, the call aims to co-finance studies and works for PCIs and PMIs. Submissions for the call will be accepted from April 30 to October 22, 2024. In addition to traditional categories such as electricity, smart grids, and carbon dioxide (CO2) networks, this year’s funding extends to projects related to hydrogen, electrolyzer, and offshore initiatives listed as PCI and PMI.

CINEA emphasises that sought-after projects align with the objectives of the European Green Deal, the Paris Agreement, and the EU’s 2030 climate and energy targets, as well as long-term decarbonisation goals.
