Renault Nissan spend big on India infrastructure

Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) has announced plans to invest over Rs 1.4 crore as part of its ‘Karpom Munneruvom’ (learning for progress) initiative, aimed at upgrading the infrastructure of eight schools in and around Oragadam. This initiative reflects RNAIPL’s commitment to corporate social responsibility for the upcoming 2023-24 financial year.

Between July and December 2023, RNAIPL will focus on constructing classrooms and restrooms, installing RO plants for clean drinking water, implementing CCTV cameras for security, and providing inverters for uninterrupted power supply. The company’s efforts align with the Tamil Nadu Education Department’s ‘Namma School’ initiative, which seeks to enhance the infrastructure of public schools in the state.

The infrastructure upgrades by RNAIPL will benefit eight schools located in Orathur, Nattarasampattu, Gunduperumpedu, Vadakkupattu, Umayalparenenchery, and Walajabad. To mark the commencement of the project, Toru Ihara, Nissan’s Global Chief HR Officer, conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the first two classrooms at the Government Higher Secondary School in Vadakkupattu village during his special visit to Chennai.

Ihara expressed Nissan’s belief in the transformative power of education, emphasising its role in overcoming barriers and driving economic growth. He emphasised that today’s children will shape a fully sustainable society in the future, both in India and globally. Nissan’s education initiatives aim to empower children to succeed and contribute to the educational development of local communities.

Keerthi Prakash, Managing Director of RNAIPL, highlighted the critical role of child education in the company’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable community development in Tamil Nadu. The school program aims to improve learning outcomes and contribute to local skill development. Prakash expressed pride in the company’s ability to positively impact the lives of thousands of children in and around their plant through these initiatives.
