Nikola, OPAL to jointly develop hydrogen fueling

Nikola Corporation, a firm that provides zero-emissions transportation and energy infrastructure solutions, and OPAL Fuels LLC, a company renowned for its supply of renewable natural gas (RNG) and renewable fueling infrastructure to fleets of heavy-duty trucks, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Both firms will cooperate on the development, construction, and operation of hydrogen fueling stations in North America and the application of RNG to hydrogen production.

Under this agreement, Nikola and OPAL Fuels plan to co-develop and co-market hydrogen refueling infrastructure.

The firm expressed, in its press release, the belief that this will help to speed up the adoption of heavy-duty zero-emission fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEV).

The core priority of this partnership is to develop infrastructure with the capacity to serve large private fleets that utilize their dedicated property fueling infrastructure “behind the fence.”

Nikola and OPAL Fuels will also work together to review and explore the viability and opportunities available to establish public access hydrogen stations.
