Mexico’s president promises infrastructure update ‘soon’

Following a cloud of uncertainty that has persisted for half of 2021, the Mexican government has now announced readiness to unveil the third cluster of projects under the country’s 2020-24 national infrastructure program (PNI), while also giving the citizens a full progress report regarding the initial two phases.

“This third infrastructure package will be announced soon at the national palace,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced to reporters when he appeared upon concluding a meeting with Mexico’s top business leaders on Thursday.

Some of those present at the meeting include the president’s former chief of staff Alfonso Romo, who could be said to be the bridge between the government and the private sector; Telmex and Grupo Carso chairman Carlos Slim Domit and Cemex CEO Rogelio Zambrano.

“The will to work together, to promote private investment, which is fundamental, was reaffirmed. The country cannot develop with just public investment, private investment is required, and a solid agreement was reached. It was a friendly meeting, there were no differences, no confrontation,” the president added
