Meta ups efforts to recruit AI talents

Meta is intensifying its efforts to recruit AI talent in 2024, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg personally reaching out to potential candidates. While Zuckerberg’s personal messages appear to be directed primarily at Google Deepmind employees, Meta is also targeting AI engineers from the finance sector.

Onur Guzey has recently joined Meta’s London office as an AI engineering manager, focusing on the core ads team. Guzey brings with him three years of experience from JPMorgan, where he served as the head of machine learning engineering for the bank’s asset management division.

His background is rooted in fintech, particularly in the high-performance environment of OakNorth Bank. Guzey previously held the position of head of AI at OakNorth Bank, where he played a pivotal role in establishing and developing its AI and data science divisions.

Guzey is not the sole fintech professional to join Meta’s ranks in 2024. In March, Xiang Li, formerly a staff engineer at Coinbase, joined Meta’s ads team. Li’s career path includes positions at tech giants Microsoft and Google, reflecting a more traditional background compared to Guzey’s fintech expertise.
