Jordan and China Explore Investment Opportunities in Aqaba

High-level officials from Jordan and China convened recently to explore avenues for enhancing investment in the Red Sea port city of Aqaba’s special economic zone. Naif Fayez, the chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, and Chen Chuandong, the Chinese ambassador to Jordan, engaged in discussions aimed at boosting tourism, economic, and industrial sectors within the zone, as reported by the Jordan News Agency on Tuesday.

The meeting underscored the mutual interest of both parties in strengthening Jordanian-Chinese relations across various domains, particularly in trade. Fayez emphasised the ongoing efforts of the authority to attract investment to the zone by offering a range of incentives, tax advantages, and fostering a stable business environment. He also highlighted Aqaba’s strategic significance and its extensive connectivity facilitated by free trade agreements.

In turn, the Chinese envoy commended the favourable investment conditions prevailing in Aqaba and underscored China’s existing commercial and industrial interests in the zone. Additionally, he extended an invitation to the authority to participate in a government training program in China, aimed at promoting knowledge exchange and fostering closer ties between the two nations.

The discussions reflect the shared commitment of Jordan and China to capitalise on the economic potential of Aqaba’s special economic zone. By leveraging their respective strengths and exploring collaborative opportunities, both parties aim to drive sustainable economic growth, promote investment, and further deepen bilateral relations. As Aqaba continues to emerge as a key investment destination in the region, partnerships such as these are expected to contribute significantly to its development trajectory.
