US to give $1bn to Middle East food security

To assist nations in the Middle East and North Africa with pressing food security challenges, the US has pledged $1 billion. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and US leaders recently issued a joint statement in response to US President Joe Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia.

“The leaders reaffirmed the strategic importance of the historic ties between their countries, and their shared commitment to building upon the achievements of previous summits to strengthen cooperation, coordination, and consultation in all fields,” the statement said as reported by UAE state news agency WAM.

The statement also listed several commitments made by the GCC to address problems with healthcare, key infrastructure, and energy security in the region and for low-income countries.

A coalition of numerous development funds known as the Arab Coordination Group earlier this year pledged $10 billion to help the region’s problems with food security.
