UOB Malaysia picks first female CEO

To succeed Wong Kim Choong, UOB Malaysia has selected its first female chief executive officer. According to a release, Ng Wei Wei has been named CEO of UOB Malaysia, starting May 1.

She succeeds Wong Kim Choong, who has held the position since 2012 and will continue to work for the bank as a senior advisor, overseeing the integration of Citi’s recently acquired retail banking division. Ng is the first woman to be appointed to the top position at UOB Malaysia.

Ng is a seasoned banker who worked for UOB Malaysia from 2000 to 2006 before moving on to various leadership positions at international financial institutions in Malaysia and Hong Kong. She returned to UOB Malaysia in 2019 as the country head of wholesale banking before becoming the company’s deputy CEO in 2021.
