N.L. distributes $23.8M to infrastructure projects

Newfoundland and Labrador has amassed a war fund of $23.8 million to assist 23 recreation, green, rural, and public transportation infrastructure projects around the province.

The Great Trail in Corner Brook will be improved to encourage active transportation along the city’s waterfront, and the Shoal Harbour Causeway Bridge in Clarenville will be renovated to make it safer for automobiles and pedestrians.

In addition, the Inuit Community Government of Hopedale will extend its water and sewer mains to a previously unserved commercial part of the community, enhancing access to safe drinking water and wastewater collection.

The Newfoundland and Labrador government is contributing more than $9.6 million to these initiatives. The federal government will contribute more than $9 million, while municipalities and other recipients will contribute more than $5.1 million.

“All of these projects that we are funding today are necessary to help communities achieve that goal,” said Andrew Furey, premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.
