Clickatell raises $91m Series C

Clickatell, a California-based chat commerce platform, has raised $91 million in a Series C investment. Kennedy Lewis Investment Management, Sequoia Capital, DAG Ventures, Endeavor Global, and Harvest were among the investors in the round, which was led by Arrowroot Capital.

The funds will be used to extend the Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) provider’s chat commerce solution, expand its US base, and scale its sales and marketing operations.

The extra funds will also be used to expand the company’s engineering team, which has operations in Canada, South Africa, and Nigeria. It has already set aside around 200 slots, with a major emphasis on expanding its African teams.

Clickatell co-founder and CEO Pieter de Villiers says: “While expansion in the US is a high priority in this capital raise, Africa will remain a core market for us and one where our purpose of creating a better world for all through technology really shines through.
