Equinix to provide connectivity hubs for subsea cable

Equinix, Inc., one of the foremost digital infrastructure companies globally, issued an announcement stating that it has been selected by SUB.CO for the landing of the Oman Australia Cable (OAC) directly into its International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers in Perth, Australia (PE2) and Muscat, Oman (MC1). These locations are expected to serve as strategic interconnection points for the 9,800-kilometer subsea cable system.

Perth is quickly evolving into a vital and strategic gateway for subsea cables in Australia as the nation has sustained a season of accelerated digital transformation. It also plays a significant role as the west coast connectivity point that provides geographic diversity from Sydney and eastern Australia.

Muscat is strategically located between Asia, Africa, and Europe, serving as a regional interconnection hub between key global markets, and the OAC is expected to further enhance Oman’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.

The completion of OAC is currently scheduled for Q2 2022. It will facilitate a direct connection between Australia with Oman. By offering a direct link between these two territories into Equinix IBX data centers, hyperscalers, enterprise customers and network providers will have access to a dense ecosystem of networks and the lowest latency, and the most direct path between Australia and onward into Europe.
