Meta Bond Offering Tests Investor Appetite image

Meta has found an eager audience in Europe’s debt market. Its first euro-denominated bond sale reportedly attracted around €53 billion in orders for an offering intended to raise approximately €8 billion to €9 billion, according to figures attributed to Bloomberg.

The demand comes as large technology groups seek enormous sums to build artificial-intelligence infrastructure. Meta has also been raising dollar debt, while Alphabet recently tapped the European market, broadening the pool of investors financing data centres and computing equipment.

Oversubscription does not mean every investor will receive the bonds requested, nor does it remove concern about the long-term return on AI expenditure. Bond buyers are evaluating the credit strength of established technology companies separately from the commercial uncertainty of particular AI projects.

The financing illustrates how the AI expansion is changing global capital markets. European debt investors are increasingly exposed to American technology spending, while corporate issuers gain alternative funding channels at a time when the scale and eventual profitability of that spending remain disputed.
