EIF Invests €350m in Kembara Fund I

The European Investment Fund (EIF) announced a €350 million investment in Kembara Fund I FCR, a venture capital fund targeting deeptech and climate innovation. Managed by Spanish firm Alma Mundi Ventures SGEIC (Mundi Ventures), the fund aims to raise €1 billion and will operate across Europe.

Kembara Fund I focuses on supporting technology startups in the growth phase (series B and C) with a particular emphasis on deeptech and climate solutions. Key target countries include Germany, Spain, France, and Sweden, alongside other EU member states.

This investment is part of the EIF’s broader strategy to drive technological advancements and climate action within Europe. EIF’s support is crucial in attracting additional investors to help Kembara reach its €1 billion target. The fund is aligned with the European Tech Champions Initiative (ETCI), which aims to finance high-growth technology startups and accelerate digital transformation across Europe.

Marjut Falkstedt, CEO of the EIF, stated, “ETCI aims to support large European funds so they can invest in leading technology startups and provide them with the large-scale financing they need for growth.”

Kembara Fund I will focus on startups with strong intellectual property in areas such as AI, future computing, robotics, space technologies, advanced materials, and new-generation energy systems. These technologies are vital for ensuring the EU’s strategic autonomy and economic growth.

Javier Santiso, CEO and founder of Mundi Ventures and co-founding partner of Kembara, expressed gratitude for the EIF’s support, stating, “We are here to support the most ambitious deeptech entrepreneurs who want to solve humanity’s most critical challenges, particularly climate change.”

The EIF’s investment in Kembara Fund I underscores Europe’s commitment to fostering innovation and addressing global challenges through cutting-edge technology and sustainable solutions.
